eSIM NL

About eSIM NL

eSIM NL sells prepaid travel eSIM data plans. You buy a plan for where you are going, we email you a QR code within minutes, and you scan it to put mobile data on your phone without changing your SIM card or paying roaming charges.

What we sell

Data-only eSIM plans, nothing else. A plan has a data allowance, a validity in days and a destination. There is no subscription, no contract and no automatic renewal: when the data or the validity runs out, the eSIM stops and you buy another one if you need it.

Because the plans are data only, your own phone number stays on your normal SIM. Calls and texts keep working as they always did, and apps like WhatsApp work over the eSIM's data.

There are currently 2,792 plans on sale across 202 destinations, starting at €2.45.

Countries and regions we cover

Single-country plans cover one destination and are usually the cheapest way to buy for one trip. Regional plans cover a group of countries on one eSIM, which is what you want for a trip crossing several borders. There are 288 regional plans covering groups such as Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North America, plus global plans.

How you receive your eSIM

Straight after payment we order the eSIM and email the QR code to the address you gave at checkout. This usually takes a minute or two. The same QR code stays on your order page, so you can find it again if the email goes missing, and it is in your account if you made one.

If something goes wrong at our supplier and the eSIM does not arrive, the order is retried automatically and we are alerted. You are not left holding a paid order with nothing to show for it.

How activation works

  1. Scan the QR code from your phone's settings to install the eSIM. Do this on Wi-Fi, before you travel if you like.
  2. Turn the eSIM line on when you arrive at your destination.
  3. Switch Data Roaming on for the eSIM line. This is the step people miss. The eSIM works by roaming onto local networks, so it cannot connect with roaming off. It does not cost anything extra.

On most plans the validity only starts counting when the eSIM first uses data, not when you buy it. Each plan page states which applies to that plan.

Step-by-step installation guide

Which phones work

Any carrier-unlocked phone that supports eSIM, which is most phones released since 2019. That includes iPhone XR and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, and Google Pixel 3 and newer. Two things have to be true: the phone must have an EID number, and it must not be locked to another operator.

Refunds

An eSIM that has not been installed or activated can be refunded. Once it has been installed or activated it cannot be, because the data allowance has already been committed to your device. If an eSIM fails to arrive or you were charged in error, email us with your order id and we refund it in full.

Common questions about travel eSIMs

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a SIM card built into your phone. Instead of putting in a plastic card, you scan a QR code and the data plan installs itself. Your normal SIM stays where it is, so your own number keeps working for calls and texts while the eSIM handles data abroad.

Which countries can I use a eSIM NL eSIM in?

We sell plans for 202 destinations, and a further 288 regional and global eSIMs that cover several countries on one plan. Every destination has its own page listing the plans that work there.

How much does an eSIM cost?

Plans start at €2.45. Allowances run from 1 GB up to 100 GB, so the price follows the size of the plan and the length of your trip. What you see is the full price with taxes included. There is no subscription, no deposit and no roaming bill afterwards.

How do I receive my eSIM?

By email, within minutes of payment. The message contains a QR code, and the same code stays on your order page, so you can install the eSIM before you leave home.

How do I install my eSIM?

Open your phone settings, add a mobile plan and scan the QR code, then switch Data Roaming on for the new line when you arrive. The installation guide has the exact steps for iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel.

Does a eSIM NL eSIM work on iPhone and Samsung?

Yes, on any carrier-unlocked phone that supports eSIM. That covers iPhone XR and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and most other phones released since 2019. To check yours, look for an EID number under Settings, General, About on iPhone, or dial *#06# on Android.

Do the plans support 5G?

Some do and some do not. Plans that support 5G use it where the local network offers it and fall back to 4G everywhere else. Each plan states the network generations it supports, on its card and on its own page, so you can see before you buy.

Can I use one eSIM in more than one country?

Yes. Alongside the single-country plans there are 288 regional and global eSIMs, each covering a set of countries on one plan, which is usually cheaper than buying an eSIM per border on a multi-stop trip.
